2016 entry and beyond: Applications welcomed.

Entry to Year 9 from a Preparatory School

Applicants who are registered for a place at the College will be contacted in the Michaelmas Term of Year 6 to see whether they wish to be considered for a Confirmed Place at the College.  These applicants will be invited to sit the 13+ Pre-Test (Cognitive Ability Tests) in January of Year 6.  The College will also contact the applicant's school for a detailed reference in support of their application and the assurance that the pupil is likely to achieve a pass in the Common Entrance Examination at the level required to gain entry to the school.  The current Common Entrance pass mark is 60% averaged over the seven core subjects, with a minimum requirement of 55% in English, Mathematics, Science and French.  Conditional Place offers will be made to suitable candidates from the Lent Term of Year 6.  The qualifying examination to secure an Unconditional Place will be the Common Entrance Examination, taken in Year 8 at the applicant's preparatory school.

Entry to Year 9 from a Senior Independent or State School

Applicants who are registered for a place at the College will be contacted in the Michaelmas Term of Year 6 to see whether they wish to be considered for a Confirmed Place at the College.  These applicants will be invited to sit the 13+ Pre-Test (Cognitive Ability Tests) in January of Year 6.  The College will also require a copy of the Applicant's end of Year 5 school report and, where possible, will seek a reference from the applicant's current school.  Conditional Place offers will be made to suitable candidates from the Lent Term of Year 6.  The qualifying examination to secure an Unconditional Place will be the Epsom College Examination, taken in the January of the year of entry.

The Epsom College Examination consists of English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning tests, together with an informal interview.  The tests are designed to gauge pupils' academic potential and ability.  They require no special preparation, and are broadly based upon National Curriculum specifications.  The tests are not designed to reward hours of coaching, but if pupils have never taken a Reasoning Paper before it would be sensible to practise one or two in order to be familiar with the format.  In the same way, it is worth identifying any areas of difficulty in English and Mathematics and address these areas.  The College does not provide practise papers.
