Forest Housemaster Jim Stephens
Forest House moved nearly 50 years ago from a central location into purpose-built accommodation alongside College Road, close to the main rugby pitches. The House outgrew this building in the early part of this decade and over the last few years has been attractively refurbished and extended. It is named after Robert Forest who was an early major benefactor. After serving as a tutor in Propert for four years and Fayrer for two years, Jim Stephens took over as Housemaster of Forest in September 2011.
Jim studied mathematics and did his PGCE at the University of Liverpool. He taught at the Judd School for two years and at Sutton Valence for five years before joining Epsom College as a maths teacher in 2005. A keen sportsman, he ran hockey at Epsom from 2008 to 2011 and coaches U14 rugby and 3rd XI cricket. He is also a keen snowboarder - frequently accompanying the annual junior ski trip - and plays in a local 5-aside football league with other members of the Common Room. He enjoys watching all sports, particularly athletics rugby and cricket.
Jim's other love is music. He is a member of Chapel Choir, plays the piano in the staff band at numerous charity events and plays the drums in the Forest House Tutors Band. He is married to Lucie, a teacher of Classics at Manor House School in Little Bookham, and has two daughters, Ella and Hattie.
Forest is an extremely friendly boys' Boarding House where all year groups can flourish both academically and socially. Jim's aim is to create a warm and supportive environment with boys in every year group playing a role in maintaining a caring and happy atmosphere.
The TV room is the social hub of the House and a brand new 55in passive 3D TV has led to very sociable 3D movie nights. Board games, in particular Monopoly, have recently made a big come-back in Forest. The House has two pool tables and a new table-tennis table.
