Coming in from the cold

Our third day in Sydney and an unfortunate change in the weather failed to change the sporting outlook as the girls enjoyed three excellent games of netball against Mater Maria College.

No sooner had we waved goodbye to cold central Sydney than we were greeted by another friendly group in the warmth of some outstanding indoor facilities.

In the 1st VII match, Tamsin Barber was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) by the opposition as she starred in an easy 30-9 victory. Similarly, the 2nd VII comfortably beat the Mater Maria girls 20-7, with  Emma Albon earning the MVP award, impressing the competition with her midcourt agility.

The 3rd VII faced a more challenging match and although they lost 20-31, the girls won their second half, demonstrating potential and progress. Katie Lang was recognised as the MVP for that match.

Following the indoor games, the girls and their opponents made their way to the actual school site, to be greeted by Mater Maria's unofficial mascot - a wallaby - as he roamed the grounds. The hospitality, in the form of a "Sausage Sizzler", was most welcome.

The party then moved on to Barker College, alma mater of many an Epsom College gap student, where they met their host families for the next three nights.

The staff were most impressed with how ably many of the girls have been mingling with their competition and hosts, fulfilling their roles as ambassadors for the College. Some were even spotted at the Blue Gum Grill, eagerly grilling their own meat and devouring ribs with the best of the Aussies!
