College basketball coach Dr Bob Chappell has been appointed manager of the England Senior Men's Basketball team after serving as manager of the England U18 team for the past two years.
"It is a great honour. Who would not be flattered to be appointed manager of the national team in a sport they love," Bob said. "It will be a great experience to work with full-time professionals and to use some of my new experiences to help the players at Epsom."
Originally the appointment was for this year's Commonwealth Games basketball tournament, but this is not now taking place now due to the withdrawal of Australia and Canada. Instead, the England team will play in a number of international tournaments in Europe throughout the summer.
Meanwhile the College boys' senior basketball team remains on course to win the Surrey Schools U18 Basktball League following a 44-19 win against Greenshaw High School on Tuesday. Chris Chau top scored with 23 pts, including 3 from the 3 point line, to maintain Epsom's position at the top of the league.
Epsom play Caterham next Tuesday and then contest their own tournament on Sunday 21st March, competing against Dulwich College, Caterham and City of London Freemen's School. England international and former "Athletes in Action" star, Dan Davis, will present the trophy to the winning team.
