The girls gathered today at the usual 7.30 am ready for a morning of adventure before some tough hockey games against Darwin representative sides in the afternoon.
First stop was the Darwin Crocodile Farm for some reptilian action. Some of the girls got to hold pieces of meat (on fishing rods) for the crocodiles to feed on. The alligators and lions, who also live at the farm, seemed utterly docile beside the snapping crocs.
Next, the girls returned to the Darwin wave pool, which also seemed tame in comparison to the crocs, but some sunshine and water seemed to be a suitable way to warm up for the hockey.
Sadly our ploy didn't work and both the U17As and U17Bs lost 0-3. Tash Nichols led the A team with her usual grace, while Emily Field and Rosie Crisp impressed with their improved play for the Bs.
Then it was on to the coach for the trip to the local Netball Centre where we played against Northern Territory representative teams. Despite being tired, every single player dug deep and put in a fine performance. Nat Sciver and Cat Melville played well for the 1st VII, leading them to a 15-5 win. The 2nd VII lost 10-15, after holding the Darwin side to 6-6 at half time, while the 3rd VII lost 2-19, unable to defend against a highly skilled shooter who missed only two of her shots.
