The Feltonfleet rifle squad were delighted to be able to use the Epsom College range
The Feltonfleet School .22 rifle squad visited the College on Tuesday to shoot against Epsom's new M4 and U4 recruits.
Accustomed to shooting in their 20 yard home range, the 12-strong Feltonfleet squad, accompanied by coach Hylton Adcroft and Feltonfleet's Master in charge of Shooting Chris Hames, were delighted to be able to broaden their experience by shooting in the unfamiliar environment of the College's 25 yard indoor range.
The Year 7 and 8 pupils, five of who are joining Epsom next year, took on six Epsom M4s and four U4s, shooting five-bull cards in groups of four with two of the Epsom team shooting twice. The more experienced Feltonfleet youngsters quickly adapted to their new surroundings and took the match by 1156 points to 1069, with captain Oliver Armstrong scoring a remarkable 99/100.
For the College juniors, the afternoon gave them the opportunity to get some match experience, which usually only happens later when they join the full target rifle squad.
Following the match, the squad were treated to a hot supper and given goodie bags to take home with them.
"This was a great chance for the Feltonfleet team to see our range and for our new juniors to get some match experience. The whole afternoon was a great success and we are looking to make it an annual event," said Clare Huxter, Mistress in charge of Shooting.
