Prep schools rise to the quiz challenge

Teams from four preparatory schools took part in the Epsom College Year 5 Quiz Challenge last Friday afternoon.

Supported by their teachers and parents, pupils from Chinthurst, Danes Hill, Falcons Prep and The Hawthorns competed in teams of four to answer quick-fire, challenging, general knowledge questions.

The quiz was based on a University Challenge format, with starter questions worth 10 points and three bonus questions worth 5 points each.

The first round saw Falcons Prep narrowly edge out Chinthurst 145-140, while holders Danes Hill scored an impressive 335-125 win over The Hawthorns.

Following tea, Chinthurst met The Hawthorns in the third place play-off and another close competition saw the lead change hands several times before Chinthurst came with a late run to take the match 215-170.

With both teams coping well with some very difficult questions, the final saw Danes Hill retain the trophy they won last year by a 170 point margin.

"I was very impressed with the depth of general knowledge shown by all the children who took part and the enthusiastic support of their teachers and parents. This well-supported and exciting event has become one of the highlights of the College's Prep Schools programme," said quizmaster Paul Green, Assistant Head, Admissions and Communications.
