The Volleyball team played in the Ashcombe Tournament and at Brighton Beach
Last Saturday, Epsom entered the U18 mixed division in the Ashcombe Tournament, but low entries meant this was collapsed to combine with an adult division two team, which is of Surrey league standard.
Epsom's team played well against some strong club sides, coming close in several games, but ultimately finishing seventh out of eight teams.
The Boys U18 team also played in the men's division two. Despite playing well, and losing some matches by just a few points, this was a learning experience rather than a winning one.
This tournament was good practice for the Beach Volleyball Tournament at the Yellow Wave Beach Sports Centre in Brighton on Wednesday. Given the forecast, we would have happily lost some matches if only we had stayed dry, but things went very well for the College team.
The girls were dominant in all games until the final, where they met Sevenoaks. This was a team the girls had beaten earlier, but Sevenoaks had clearly learned from the experience and emerged victorious from this closely fought match.
The boys' competition could have been won by Epsom, Bedford or The Leys, who all played good volleyball throughout the day. Surprisingly, each managed to lose in their pool games.
Epsom just squeezed through to the final to meet Bedford. After a dominant start, promising an easy win, Epsom were slightly panicked by Bedford's improvement but they hung on to win by a point.
The boys B team played well to come third in their pool before losing out to a strong Leys team in the playoff.
