Continuing the College's run of success in public speaking competitions this term, Sareena Blackburn was awarded the prize for the Best Speaker at the Guildford District Final of the English-Speaking Union (ESU)'s Public Speaking Competition for Schools on Thursday evening.
Up against extremely strong competition from Charterhouse, Sutton Grammar School for Boys, Tormead, Coombe High School and Salesian College, U4 Sareena delivered her speech on the topic of Some Conflicts Will Never Be Resolved with great confidence in the splendid surroundings of the Guildhall in Guildford.
The College team of Sareena (Speaker), U4 George Hatfield (Chair) and 5th former Patrick Lewis (Questioner) won their way through to the District Final after finishing second to Sutton Grammar in the East Guildford heat of the competition held at Epsom College last week.
But despite Sareena's individual success and the national organiser of the competition describing the performances of both George and Patrick as "excellent", Epsom lost out to Charterhouse and Sutton Grammar in the District Final team competition.
