Design and Technology pupils visit New Holland tractor factory
A group of GCSE Design and Technology pupils visited the New Holland tractor factory and gained insight into the company’s history, and their range of products.
The 48 pupils learnt how the company is addressing the needs of modern agriculture, whilst becoming increasingly sustainable. They also explored the links between the manufacture of high performance cars and tractors, which brought material covered in the classroom to life.
A guided tour of the factory and assembly line enabled pupils to better understand a variety of production areas – this included; electrostatically charged painting, ‘Just In Time’ manufacture, quality control and responding to consumer needs.
A highlight of this trip was the time spent in the showroom. The pupils experienced first-hand the comforts of a modern tractor, the scale of a combine harvester, and even tried their luck on the virtual-reality ploughing game. All headed home from Basildon enlightened and happy.
