The Downsend A team - winner of the Years 5 and 6 boys' competition
After more than three decades of running the Superteams competition, the College launched a new athletics event for Prep Schools on Friday 24th June.
Organised by Master in Charge of Athletics Lawrence Matthews, the inaugural Epsom College Prep Schools' Athletics Match and BBQ brought together over 150 children from Years 5 to 8 from 10 schools together with a large crowd of supporters. Young athletes took part in both track and field events, which included the 200m, 4 x 100m relay, 800m, high jump, long jump and discus.
The afternoon produced some excellent athletics with many competitors achieving personal bests. Following the final of the relay, competitors and their families made their way to the cricket pavilion for a BBQ. Before the awards were presented families were able to socialise and meet members of the Epsom College Common Room, who had officiated at the competition.
The overall winner of the Years 7 and 8 boys' competition was Milbourne Lodge, with Cumnor House in second place and Shrewsbury House third. In the Years 5 and 6 girls' event, the Downsend A team took first place, Newton Prep second and the Downsend B team came third and in the Years 5 and 6 boys' competition, first place went to the Downsend A team, with Cumnor House coming second and Cranmore third.
Other schools competing were Bramley, Fulham Prep, King's House and Lanesborough.
Shields were presented by Epsom College Headmaster Stephen Borthwick.
