Raven House

Raven House, founded in 1999 is our youngest house.  It is named after Dame Kathleen Raven, an influential figure in the world of medicine and nursing and chairman of the College's Council for many years.  As a close friend of Dame Raven, who died in April 1999, Michael Portillo officially opened the house in the October of 1999. It occupies the building that had been Crawfurd House, onto which the new Mackinder classroom block was built. Its location, at the very heart of the teaching area of the College campus, is found by its members to be most convenient, as is its proximity to the school shop.

Rebecca Stone joined Raven as Housemistress in September 2013.  She studied for a degree in Zoology at Bristol University, followed by post-doctoral research as an entomologist with the University of Birmingham.  She joined Epsom College in 2010 with previous experience as an Assistant Year Leader at the Howard of Effingham School.  Rebecca believes in the breadth of an education; her contribution to the co-curriculum at Epsom includes coaching the 2nd VII Netball, assisting the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and running the students' Medical Society.  She maintains a joy in teaching her subject and enjoys leading conservation expeditions in the holidays to highly bio-diverse locations such as Indonesia and Madagascar.

As someone who feels that it is important to make the most of all the chances that life throws your way, Rebecca seeks to encourage the girls in Raven to enjoy the wealth of opportunities that Epsom College offers.  Successes in all areas of school life are shared and celebrated, and a sense of house identity, support and pride is strong.  The girls have a strong sense of community; they develop qualities such as respect, honesty and compassion for others.  Raven has a dedicated Tutor team who guide the girls pastorally and academically alongside the Head of Year team.  Additional support and assistance is given by our Matron, Mrs Gina Frost, who is available at all times of the day for the girls to talk to.  The girls are enouraged to develop their own talents, grow in confidence and gain the skills they need to eventually leave us to enter the world beyond school.
