Raven House, founded in 1999 is our youngest house. It is named after Dame Kathleen Raven, an influential figure in the world of medicine and nursing and chairman of the College's Council for many years. As a close friend of Dame Raven, who died in April 1999, Michael Portillo officially opened the house in the October of 1999. It occupies the building that had been Crawfurd House, onto which the new Mackinder classroom block was built. Its location, at the very heart of the teaching area of the College campus, is found by its members to be most convenient, as is its proximity to the school shop.
Will Burn joins Raven as Housemaster from September 2017. He joined Epsom College in 2014 as Head of English, and became part of the Raven tutor team in 2016, as tutor for the Upper Sixth. Will runs the Debating Society, taking students to competitions across the south of England, and assists with the Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme.
Growing up in rural Oxfordshire, Will attended Abingdon School, where his love of music, literature and languages first took root. He read English at King's College, London, where he held a choral scholarship. After graduating, Will moved to Germany for two years, teaching English at Gymnasiums in Nuremberg. He then returned to the UK to undertake his PGCE, and then taught at Chilwell School a comprehensive in the Nottingham suburb of Beeston, before spending two years at Nottingham High School. As well as English, Will taught Music, German and RS, and was Head of Year 11.
He is married to Lisa, a public health specialist. They live in Epsom with their two cats, Ella and Annie, and enjoy travelling, food, and walking in the beautiful Surrey countryside.
Will is delighted to be taking the reins at Raven House and hopes to sustain the House's lively community, independent spirit and pursuit of excellence.
