History Society welcomes renowned Old Epsomian

The College History Society was delighted to welcome Old Epsomian Dr Suzannah Lipscomb, a renowned Tudor historian, to give a lecture on Wednesday evening.

A group of L6th historians and teachers were treated to a scholarly and inspirational presentation in the Library. In a wide ranging speech, focusing on various aspects of the life of Henry VIII, Dr Lipscomb concentrated on the theme of "Prince To Tyrant" and the means through which King Henry evolved into a despotic ruler.

In addition to students gaining a comprehensive overview of this pivotal period, which is assessed in one of their AS modules, Dr Lipscomb also provided insights into her current role at the New College of the Humanities.

"The Library proved to be a splendid arena for Dr Lipscomb\’s speech and the evening was a marvellous educational experience, hopefully enthusing Epsom historians to follow in her notable footsteps," said Dr Murray Tod, Head of History, Government and Politics.
