Epsom welcomes the Casuals for last 1st XI match of the season

It was a pleasure to welcome the Casuals this week in what is always a great footballing occasion. The atmosphere was true to the roots and heritage of the Casuals ethos: gentlemen’s football played with style and great sportsmanship.

Epsom started well and were fluid in their approach. An early goal from a set piece saw the Casuals go ahead. Undeterred Epsom continued to press and force opportunities on goal, but simple errors in the middle of the pitch saw two freak goals come from speculative long-range lobs.

On the back foot, the boys didn’t give up, despite going behind even further with a clinically executed free kick from 25 yards. The boys rallied and pulled back two goals from Ben Grubb (P), and a third from Callum Holland (Rn). Epsom turned the screw but couldn’t quite manage to find the equaliser. If we had played to the full 90 minutes a draw surely would have come, but the final whistle saw the Casuals win.

Fin Savill (P) was awarded Player of the Match by the Casuals captain and team for his outstanding sportsmanship and style of leadership. A truly merit-worthy prize for our superb captain who has served at 1st XI level now for three full seasons.

All of our Upper Sixth players have given an excellent contribution to the season and we extend our thanks as they move on. There is much to build upon and develop with our Lower Sixth and those who will rise through the ranks as U16s move up next year.

Goals: Ben Grubb (2) Callum Holland (1)

Player of Match: Finlay Savill (Captain)
