Girls sports round-up – 29 June

Epsom Girls’ Volleyball Team travelled to Ashcombe to play in a four-a-side tournament. With good weather, the girls were eager to start a day of matches. Epsom met the Greenhouse Lions in their first match with a convincing victory 40-10, Yee Lam Sze (Wh) leading the way with seven spiking attacks. In their second match they faced strong competition from South Hants but still managed a comfortable win 40-23. The girls went confidently into their third match against Ashcombe Divers where Jeannie Neth (Cr) impressed everyone with her strong serve, getting five aces in total. This led the team up to their fourth and final regular game against the Greenhouse Jaguars, securing an undefeated day with a final score of 48-16. This resulted in a comfortable first place playoff position where they faced the Ashcombe Divers once again. In a nail-biting finals playoff match, the girls played their best game of the day securing their gold medal with a 35-31 win. Well done to all the girls and special mention to Chloe Poon (Wh) for her strong and consistent setting all day; Kay Chan (Wh) for her attacks at the net and Rachel Wong (Cr) for her defence along the front line. Congratulations to all the girls on a well-earned gold medal tournament.
