Hockey Coach

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, part-time Hockey Coach to join our highly successful and vibrant Games Department

Epsom College is an independent Co-educational Boarding and Day School for approximately 1140 pupils aged 11 to 18 years. The School is located approximately one mile from Epsom town, below Epsom Downs, in fine buildings set in a beautiful tree filled campus of some 72 acres. Founded in 1855, the College has high academic standards and offers a very wide range of extra-curricular activities. The College’s original foundation is The Royal Medical Foundation and links with the medical profession remain strong.

Hockey is a major sport at the College played by girls both in the Michaelmas and Lent terms.

The Role

Main Duties

  • Plan sessions and offer coaching skills, guidance and advice to hockey players to improve their technical skills and match play skills
  • Supervision of pupils ensuring an active and motivational session
  • Conduct sessions and supervision within professional boundaries and in compliance with the College’s safeguarding protocols and health and safety regulations

Required Skills

  • Suitably qualified/experienced to coach to match standard
  • A friendly and encouraging approach within a coaching environment
  • Fair and consistent approach in the supervision of pupils
  • An understanding and appreciation of safeguarding protocols and H&S knowledge
  • Experience of working within a school environment is desirable
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Terms and Conditions

  • Expected Hours: Term Time: Coaching four afternoons a week expected to be Monday – Thursday 2pm-4pm, Saturday 9-11am. No guaranteed hours of working and such hours will vary depending on the timetable and Games programme. Sessions will be offered that the coach can accept or decline.
  • Salary: The rate will be £33.30 per hour coaching and £21.34 per hour when supervising, team managing/umpiring matches/events paid monthly in arrears on 25th of the month following submission of approved timesheet. The coaching rate is not payable on match days/events.
  • Holidays: Statutory holiday entitlement is calculated on a monthly basis based on the hours you have worked and have submitted for payment. The calculation is 12.07% of the hourly rate for each hour worked and the amount of holiday pay paid to you for that month will be itemised on the payslip as “holiday pay”.
  • Pension: There is an automatic enrolment into the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme for employees who are eligible. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. The Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4% in compliance with current legislation. Eligible employees may opt out of the scheme if they wish.

Offer of Post

Please note whilst the Enhanced DBS check will be paid by the College if an overseas police check is required it will be at the cost of the successful applicant.
