Co-Curricular Diaries: Yoga

As a leading school for all-rounders, our pupils enjoy a huge array of clubs, societies and activities. This week we explore our Yoga Club - with Year 11 pupils Destiny and Felicia.

Yoga is a firm favourite Friday afternoon activity – providing a superb way for pupils to take time to soothe mind and strengthen body. Year 11 pupils, Destiny Williams and Felicia Cheung, tell us more.

Q. What made you choose yoga? How long have you been doing it?

Felicity: I have been doing yoga for two terms. I chose it because it’s sounded fun, and I’ve never done it before.

Destiny: I chose yoga because I thought it would be a beneficial way to relax and de-stress at the end of a busy week – especially with exam season coming up.

Q. What do you do each week?

Felicity: We do yoga poses, meditation, and breathing exercises.

Destiny: Usually in yoga we do a lot of stretching, strengthening and balancing poses and at the end of each lesson we relax, lay down and play calming sounds.

 Q. What has been your favourite thing about it/what do you enjoy most about it?

Felicity: My favourite part is the end of every session. We meditate for 10-15 minutes and I love the calming music and atmosphere.

Destiny: My favourite thing about yoga is when we do partner work and recreate different poses in pairs. It’s fun as they teach you to work as a team to achieve an outcome.

 Q. Why should someone choose to do yoga?

Felicity: It’s a great way to decompress after a long week especially because it’s the last period on a Friday afternoon.

Destiny: I think people should choose yoga as it is a very interesting calming club to try, especially during the busy exam season.
