BTEC Sport Trip to St Mary’s University

Year 12 BTEC Sport students took part in a highly engaging and informative trip to St Mary’s University.

Fitness Testing
Using technology typically reserved for elite athletes, students participated in a series of advanced physical assessments, including the Isometric Mid-Thigh Pull, Countermovement Jump, and Depth Jump. They also received an insightful talk from one of the university’s strength and conditioning lecturers, who discussed the suitability of various tests, the reliability of results, and the importance of testing in athletic development.

After lunch and a guided tour of the campus – including a visit to an impressive Esports facility – the students moved on to their second session.

Nutrition Workshop
This session focused on sugar and its role in sports performance. Students learned how to identify the sugar content in different foods, explored various types of sugar, and examined the role of glycogen in physical activity. They also analysed the composition and effectiveness of popular sports drinks.
