Lower School Students Sit UK Maths Trust Kangaroo test
The UK Maths Trust (UKMT) is the leading British charity that advances the education of young people in mathematics
The Junior Kangaroo Test was sat by those Lower School students who qualified from the Junior Maths round, taken earlier this year. Year 8 student, Fraser, goes on to explain:
“Twelve mathematicians from Years 7 and 8 took part in the Junior Kangaroo maths paper. The paper is designed to challenge a student’s problem-solving, arithmetic, and law/method knowledge. It was a multiple-choice, non-calculator test with 25 questions with marks differing for the difficulty of the question. You were able to take this test if you passed a certain mark in the previous one, taken earlier in the term. Questions were mainly quite logical to answer; however, there were some questions that required knowledge of advanced untaught ideas, such as Pythagoras theorem a2 + b2 = c2.”
Overall, the test was challenging, logical, but most importantly, fun!
