Apply NowAn exciting opportunity to supervise the use of the sports facilities at Epsom College; overseeing pupils, staff, hirers and parents whilst they use the various amenities and effectively dealing with health and safety matters as well as the smooth running of the operations at the Sports Centre and sports facilities. The candidate must be able to provide a friendly, efficient service, with the highest standards of customer care for those visiting the facilities.
Introduction
Epsom College is a co-educational day and boarding school with just over 1150 pupils aged 11-18. The College is located approximately one mile from Epsom town, below Epsom Downs, in fine buildings set in a beautiful tree-filled campus of some 72 acres. Originally founded by The Royal Medical Benevolent Foundation, today the College strives to develop the individual talents of every girl and boy. Pupils are prepared for life beyond the College with an assured set of values and with the belief that they can make a difference in society. Highest standards of excellence in academic work and co-curricular activities are expected, but equally valued is the development of the pupils into independent responsible adults with a purpose and an understanding of the benefits of contributing to their community.
The College has its own Sports Centre which comprises a fitness suite, dance studio, two sports halls, fencing salle, six squash courts, and 25m indoor swimming pool. The outside facilities include two artificial pitches for hockey, tennis and football (one of which is floodlit) and nine netball/tennis courts.
The Sports Centre is used extensively by pupils and staff, as well as hired to commercial users most evenings, weekends and during holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- To supervise the day-to-day running of the Sports Centre, including bookings and general usage.
- To adopt a positive customer-focused approach interacting with all users during their visit to the facility.
- To lifeguard the staff swimming sessions (training and qualification provided) and hiring of the swimming pool during holidays.
- To ensure the safe opening and closure of the sports facilities, which includes the Pool, Fitness Suite, Sports Centre and any other sports facility in use.
- To supervise bookings with the hirers and ensure that they keep to their booking times and following NOPs always.
- To follow Health and Safety procedures.
- To provide First Aid if necessary.
- To respond to an emergency quickly and effectively following College procedures.
- To implement Normal Operating Procedures (NOPs) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).
Main Duties
- To supervise the use of the sports facilities, ensuring it is appropriate, and to always ensure the safety and welfare of all users, giving appropriate guidance and advice to hirers as and when necessary.
- To lifeguard the swimming pool for a staff session (training provided)
- To open and secure the Sports building and Sports facilities before or after use.
- To provide a knowledgeable service for all staff members and prospective hirers.
- To ensure the Sports Centre, Fitness Suite and Swimming Pool is clean and presentable, and to clean equipment if required to do so.
- To complete any health and safety reports.
- To respond as appropriately trained to an emergency, incident and/or accident.
- To undertake duties in accordance with safeguarding procedures and protocols.
- To comply with any other reasonable duties within the Sports Centre and associated departments.

Essential Skills, Experience and Attributes
- First Aid – Emergency at work qualification (can be obtained after appointment and prior to commencement)
- Lifeguarding (NPLQ) qualification (can be obtained after appointment and prior to commencement)
- A minimum of a Level 2 – Gym Instructor or Level 2 – Sports Coaching (can be obtained after appointment and prior to commencement)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable and responsible attitude and able to use own initiative
- Able to follow safety protocols and working protocols
- Motivated, flexible, with a can do, friendly approach
- Strong appreciation of customer service

Terms and Conditions
Hours:
- 27 hours per week
Salary:
- £19,250 per annum, based on hours above
Holidays:
- The holiday entitlement is 20 days holiday per annum, increasing by one day per year to a maximum of 25, in addition to public holidays (calculated pro rate for part time working).
Pension:
- The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria. If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of basic salary and the College will contribute 4% in compliance with current legislation.

Offer of Post
