Wilson House was established in 1873 and is named after Sir Erasmus Wilson, who founded the Chair of Dermatology at the Royal College of Surgeons, although he is better known for paying for the removal of Cleopatra’s Needle from Alexandria and its epic transportation to the Embankment in London.
The House was originally founded as the Headmaster’s House. It is believed that parents used to pay extra to put their sons in Wilson under the beady eye of the Headmaster. In 1996, it became the first House at Epsom College to welcome girls from 13-18.
Wilson is centrally located in the College grounds, close to the academic buildings and with wonderful views over Wilson pitch and north towards London.
Rebecca Wilson, Housemistress
Ihave been Housemistress of the Wilson House family since January 2017. One of the things that struck me, instantly, was how special the relationships between girls were in the House; truly looking after one another like siblings would, spanning across all the year groups. This is a House full of kindness and laughter. As a music teacher, I really enjoy the way their joyful chatter resonates through the House (as long as they are then quiet for their prep time!).
I hold an MA in Music with a Choral Scholarship and a PGCE, both from Cambridge University. I began my teaching career at The Bishop’s Stortford High School and, subsequently, nurtured my love of boarding in the roles of Resident Tutor and Assistant Housemistress at Haileybury, Imperial Service College and through my first Housemistress position at Downe House School.
I am an active musician, and take part in concerts and recording sessions as a double bassist and singer in a wide range of genres from film scores through to classical and jazz performances. I am a commissioned Pilot Officer in the RAF CCF and, recently, I was commissioned as a Lay Eucharistic Minister.
I am married to Rory and we have two young children, Fraser and Autumn, who have never known life outside of boarding, and truly believe that they have 49 elder sisters! We also have a young dog called Shadow who also adores the attention from the girls in the house.
Out of term time, we enjoy heading to our family home in Cornwall to make the most of all that the rock pools have to offer, whatever the weather! We love living at the College and are very proud to call Wilson House our family home.
Tania Moore, Matron
I have worked at Epsom College for the past ten years and enjoy being the Matron of Wilson House. The Wilson girls fill the House with joy and laughter – the House has a very warm, friendly and family feel to it and the girls are a big part in making this happen!
I really enjoy walking, I walk around the beautiful grounds with the Raven House Matron every lunchtime (weather permitting!). I fill my spare time meeting up with family and friends and shopping!
