Take a Look Around

Wilson House was established in 1873 and is named after Sir Erasmus Wilson. Erasmus founded the Chair of Dermatology at the Royal College of Surgeons, but is better known for paying for the removal of Cleopatra’s Needle from Alexandria and its epic transportation to the Embankment in London.

The House was originally founded as the Headmaster’s House. It is believed that parents used to pay extra to put their sons in Wilson under the beady eye of the Headmaster. In 1996, it became the first House at Epsom College to welcome girls all the way through from 13-18 and is now home to 50 girls.

Wilson is centrally located in the College grounds, close to the academic buildings and with wonderful views over Wilson pitch and north towards London. To take a look inside, click on the image.

Céline Winmill, Housemistress

I have been a tutor in Wilson House since September 2021 but I have worked at Epsom College since September 2000 when I joined as a Raven House tutor and a teacher of French with Spanish. My career at Epsom has seen me taking posts of responsibilities such as Resident Tutor in Crawfurd in September 2002, Boarding Housemistress of White House in September 2004, Teacher in charge of the Academic Timetable in September 2014, Head of U4 in September 2015, Day Tutor in Carr House, Acting Head of French in September 2018 and Head of Whole School Timetable in 2021.

I hold an MA in English Linguistics and Phonetics from Bordeaux University and a PGCE from the University of Roehampton, UK.

I am married to Ian, who taught Computer Science at Epsom College between 2007 and 2015 – he now is a Design and Technology technician at Reigate Grammar School – and we have two daughters now 19 and 17, Jo-Anne and Noémie. Jo-Anne was born when I was working in Crawfurd House and she is now a Chef in Epsom College’s kitchens and Noémie was born when I was Housemistress of White House and is now a Lower 6th student at Epsom College, in Murrell House. We also have a small dog called Rudy.

Out of term time, we enjoy heading for an adventure in our campervan whether it be all over France and particularly in the South West where I am from, to enjoy water sports, cycle rides, walks or skiing in the Pyrenees. Epsom College has been my work place and my home for many years and I am very excited, honoured and very much look forward to be living in Wilson house as the Housemistress during Mrs Wilson’s maternity leave.

Tania Moore, Matron

I have worked at Epsom College for the past 12 years and enjoy being the Matron of Wilson House. The Wilson girls fill the House with joy and laughter – the House has a very warm, friendly and family feel to it and the girls are a big part in making this happen!

I really enjoy walking, I walk around the beautiful grounds with the Raven House Matron every lunchtime (weather permitting!). I fill my spare time meeting up with family and friends and shopping!

Chloe McHaffey, Head of House 2023-24

My name is Chloe, and I joined Epsom College in Year 9 in 2019. I am honoured to be representing Wilson as the new Head of House as it is welcoming, united and has a family-like atmosphere. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far and I will continue to make lasting memories.

I’m currently studying Business Management, Religious Studies and Politics A-level, I have also under-taken Core Maths as another qualification. I am hoping to study Philosophy and International Relations at university.

Besides being in the classroom, you will see me take part in a number of co-curricular activities such as the Food Committee, being Head of Media in Philosophy Society and being a member of Politics Society. I have also been involved as a key Peer Mentor by doing presentations to my cohort and to parents of the College, which has improved my skills in public speaking.
