164th Founder’s Day

It was a pleasure to welcome parents, OEs, and their families, guests and other friends to join with staff and pupils for the 164th Founder’s Day – our first since 2019. This was, undoubtedly, the busiest Founder’s Day we have ever hosted and was very much enjoyed by all the parents and visitors on the day.

The sun shone over the College which was a hive of activity. Highlights included the Lower School Athletics Championships, Epsom Boys 1st XI Cricket v Old Epsomians, Inter-House Rounders, Tennis Singles Finals, Sparkling Wine and Canapés, and a delicious Jubilee Tea with first-class entertainment from the Music department.

In the International Marquee, the African Caribbean Asian and Allies Society (ACAAS) provided an informative and bright display showcasing games, cultural artefacts and stories representative of the rich diversity within the College Community.

Pupil Victoria Smirnova said: “It really brought together different communities within the school. Many Russian people got a chance to meet each other for the first time at the Russian stand. I really hope this event becomes a tradition in the future as more pupils volunteer to speak about their cultures.”

Sporting Results

Epsom Boys 1st XI Cricket v Old Epsomians

• Epsom Won by 19 runs
• Epsom 209-9: Gardner (G) 50, Franks (H) 46, Garrett (G) 37, Porter (Fa) 30
• OE XI 190: Hildebrand (H) 5-41

The annual Founder’s Day fixture provided another classic encounter. With the game ebbing and flowing throughout, all three results were possible with a few overs to go.

Batting first, the College side made a steady start through Ben Garrett (G) 37 and Harry Porter (Fa) 30. The OEs then roared back with Charlie Briegel (ex-Fa) 2-28 and Harry Williams (ex-P) 4-51 ripping through the top order.

Max Franks (H) 46 and Harry Gardner (G) 50 then staged a recovery before the College side declared on 209-9.

In reply, the OEs got off to a rapid start, with Harry Roberts (ex-C) scoring a destructive half-century 66. With the game moving quickly to a close, 1st XI spinners Brendan Hildebrand (H) 5-41 and Harry Gardner 4-69 then staged a comeback, seeing the OEs fall 19 runs short. A great game played in tremendous spirit in front of a large Founder’s Day crowd.
