Assistant Director of Hockey, Rose Thomas, competed in Pisa for the World Cup Qualifiers as part of the Senior Women’s Wales Hockey team. Here she reflects on the experience:
“We went into the knock-out style tournament ranked 7th out of 8, with our first game against hosts Italy. In a tight and cagey game, we came out on top with a close 1-0 win. Our next game against Scotland finished with a 0-0 draw, but we won in dramatic style on penalty shootouts. We made it to the final but just missed out with a late goal vs Ireland, former World Cup Silver medallists. A whirlwind tournament that surpassed expectations and moved Wales up three world-ranking positions!”
