Co-Curricular Diaries: Gardening

As a leading school for all-rounders, our pupils enjoy a huge array of clubs, societies and activities. This week we explore our Gardening Club, with Year 7 pupils Zara, Christian and Bella.

Q. What made you choose your activity and how long have you been doing it?

  • Zara: I have been doing Gardening Club for five weeks so far and I am generally very passionate about learning new things in the club, since we get to plant our own food to take home.
  • Christian: I chose gardening because I was curious about the club and wanted to experience a different hobby than my usual forms of entertainment. I have been doing gardening since the start of the year.
  • Bella: I wanted to do Gardening Club because I enjoy gardening. This is my second term in Gardening Club.

 Q. What do you do each week?

  • Zara: Each week in Gardening Club, we get to experiment with different plants, whether it be indoor or outdoor, and we plant a variety of seeds to grow.
  • Christian: Each week normally consists of taking care of plants that we’ve previously planted and planting new vegetation.
  • Bella: We are currently planting lots of things – I have planted lemon, basil and thyme. Last Thursday, we planted a wild meadow which I am very excited to see.

 Q. What do you enjoy most about Gardening Club?

  • Zara: In my opinion, in the Club my most favourite thing is when we get to go out into the greenhouse.
  • Christian: I truly enjoy most the emotional attachment you get to the plants.
  • Bella: I enjoy being able to spend time with my friends at Gardening club.

 Q. Why should someone choose to do Gardening?

  • Zara: In my opinion, people should choose Gardening as a club as it is very fun each week, especially when we get to try new experiments.
  • Christian: I believe that people should choose gardening because everyone that is already in it has been taught responsibility and have fun while doing it. If you want to learn and love your experience, choose Gardening Club.
  • Bella: Because we get to be outside in the fresh air, which is lovely, and sometimes we go on mindful walks.
