It has been a week of celebration for Epsom’s U14 cricketers, with the boys retaining the Hobbs Trophy here at Epsom and the girls travelling to The Leys School in Cambridgeshire where they also retained the Leys trophy.
Both teams produced excellent cricket across two hot days and against strong opposition. Tom and Darcey were the top performers with the bat, while Darcey also shone with the ball.
The U14 Boys had already sealed their place in the final of the Anderson Cup after a convincing won over Whitgift last Friday.
Success Beyond the U14s
After a busy week of cricket in the baking sunshine, Epsom’s other cricketers have also continued to excel.
On Monday, the U12A boys reached the Surrey final with a win over Reigate Grammar School, joining the girls who had done the same on Friday against Alleyn’s.
On Wednesday, both the boys and girls 1st XIs had their National T20 quarter-finals. The girls travelled to face Alleyn’s and recorded a comfortable nine-wicket win. They are now through to finals day shortly after the end of term. The boys, meanwhile, hosted an in-form Simon Langton Grammar School and – despite a below-par score with the bat – fought back to book a place against Clifton College on Friday. The winner of this game will have a potential Lord’s final as the reward.
Alongside the boys 1st XI, the boys U13XI also have their cup semi-final on Friday, visiting Trinity School in what will be a closely fought encounter.
Last weekend the senior boys cricketers enjoyed a clean sweep of wins against Charterhouse, with Nathan (1st), Will (2nd), and Josh (U15B) all scoring excellent half centuries, while honours were shared in the lower school matches against Whitgift. The girls also won all their matches against Charterhouse, with Darcey (U14A) scoring another unbeaten fifty.
However, star of the week is 1st team girls captain Lucy who smashed a remarkable unbeaten 141 in the 1st team’s victory on Saturday.
