Drama Masterclass

Epsom College Drama and Music Departments welcomed Year 5 Pupils from Broomwood Boys, Walton on the Hill and Old Vicarage School for a Musical Theatre Master Class.

As part of our series of events for local prep and primary schools, Epsom welcomed 24 pupils to take part in a day-long drama master class – developing their singing, acting and stagecraft.

After a vocal and acting warm-up at the start of the day to get the ball rolling, Ms Jakes and Mr Wickham led a variety of workshop scenes incorporating dialogue, singing, choreography, character and prop work. It was a lot to learn in a short time and the Year 5 pupils truly embraced this. They were energetic and enthusiastic throughout and were on top form when they shared their day’s work with their teachers and parents.

Mr Wickham, Assistant Director of Music, said: “It’s excellent that the pursuit of dramatic and musical excellence is valued so greatly amongst local schools and that we can be a part of expanding the pupils’ experience.”

Ms Jakes said that she was very impressed by the positive approach from all pupils during rehearsals. She added:

It was quite emotional watching their brilliant performance at the end of the day as they acted, sang and danced with such a strong sense of commitment and joy!
