Ensembles Concert Brings Cinematic Magic to Big School

Pupils from Year 9, 10 and Lower Sixth presented a programme of high-quality music making including a Pixar Movie Magic Medley and Pirates of the Caribbean Suite by the Symphony Orchestra

With two year groups on study leave, the Ensembles Concert was a remarkable showcase of the emerging musical talent in the College.

The String Orchestra set the tone with an exciting performance of Karl Jenkins’ Palladio Concert Grosso featuring soloists Lily Gartside and Sophia Pirrie. They also gave a particularly moving performance of Oogway Ascends from Kung Fu Panda with cello soloist Justin Pang.

The Symphony Orchestra followed with a captivating rendition of the popular Pirates of the Caribbean Suite. Continuing the film music theme, the Senior Concert Band delighted the audience with a Pixar Movie Magic medley and a very sensitive rendition of Fantasy on an Irish Air by Saucedo.

The concert also included Sax Ensemble, Barbershop Group, Girls Acapella, and Jazz Ensemble who each impressed with an eclectic mix of repertoire.

Sir Anthony Seldon, in his notes of thanks to the audience, drew attention to the dedication of not only the pupils, but the supportive staff in the department and parents who allow their children to flourish.
