Epsom College Down Under

October Half Term 2019 provided the perfect occasion for Education Trust Director, Helen Tranter, to visit Sydney and Canberra and meet with alumni who reside in Australia. A drinks reception in the Rocks area of Sydney was well attended and many a recollection of school days was shared.  Guests were provided with an update on the success of the College and The Mermaid development project, and all donations from the evening were given in support of this appeal. Helen was delighted to meet all who attended, as well as James Erskine (P 1966-71), whom she met on a separate occasion.

Canberra was over 30 degrees as Helen arrived from Sydney to meet former OE Australia Chapter President Bob Newman (W 1943-46) and his wife Janet. During her 36 hour stay, Helen was treated to a whistle-stop tour of Canberra, with the highlight of her visit being Bob’s own recollections and memoirs of his life, called ‘The First 90 years’, a wonderful and unique publication with a large portion dedicated to Epsom College.

Helen and all at the College are very grateful to our overseas networks for their help, support and generosity in making these events possible. Our global chapters are so very important in keeping alive our worldwide network, sharing the wealth of knowledge among our 7500 strong community. We very much look forward to seeing you again at various events in 2020.

In the meantime, please follow us on Facebook and join the Old Epsomian Club Official Group on LinkedIn, and do send us updates of your email and postal addresses.
