The Department for Education (DfE) has ranked Epsom in the top 2% of schools (and the top 5% of Independent Schools) in England for its A-level performance, based on the value we add and the progress made by our pupils.
The latest league tables were published this week and reflect the outstanding work undertaken by all pupils and staff in furthering Epsom’s reputation for academic excellence.
The DfE’s league table is considered definitive, as data from every school in the country is evaluated.
Schools are measured through a detailed, statistical analysis of pupils’ progress – assessing whether students are fulfilling or exceeding the level of ability they showed when entering the school.
Each pupil’s achievements at A-level are plotted against their expected outcome, and schools are then scored accordingly.
Richard Alton, Deputy Head: Academic, says: “These results are testament to the hard work Sixth Form students put into their studies. We have passionate subject specialist teachers who set the students ambitious targets, and the vast majority of students reach them, thereby making exceptional progress through the A-level course. I am delighted that this is evidenced by the Department for Education, as many tables do not give a full picture of students’ progress and this demonstrates, once again, the positive trajectory of the College.”
The DfE League Tables are based on Epsom’s 2018 A-level results, which represented an outstanding achievement for the School:
- over 87% of the outcomes fell in A* to B grade range
- over 57% of grades attained were A* or A grades.
- The average points score for the Upper Sixth equated to an average of AAA per student
