Epsom student Luke McBride excelled at the 2025 European Squash U17 Championships, held in Bordeaux. His strong performances helped England to secure gold at the tournament, continuing the team’s dominance in Europe.
In the initial rounds against Portugal, the team won 3-0 with an outstanding individual performance from Luke, who played a pivotal role in setting the tone, winning his match 11-6, 11-4, 11-5.
The national coach praised the team’s resilience and highlighted McBride’s vital role in getting the team to the finals to face France: “Luke McBride was exceptional throughout the tournament, not just in terms of his performance on court, but also his leadership. His consistent form was a big factor in our success. We knew France would be a tough final, but the strength of our team spirit and the quality of players like McBride made all the difference.”
The final was a dramatic showdown against a strong French team. France took an early lead. With the England team levelling the score 1-1. The deciding match was down to the No3 and they delivered a remarkable 3-2 victory. Huge congratulations to Luke and the rest of the England team for the success.
