Epsom’s Students Inspiring Young Minds at Banstead Infant School

Our Sixth Formers have been making a big impact as part of Epsom's award-winning service programme

At the start of the academic year, we welcomed Banstead Infant School as a new partner in the College’s service programme, offering weekly volunteering opportunities for some of our Sixth form pupils.

The partnership has been going very well, for pupils from both schools. Ann Henwood, Deputy Headteacher & DDSL at Banstead Infant School said: “This is the first year that Banstead Infant School has collaborated with Epsom College on the service programme and it has been a pleasure to host 30 students each week. They have helped with a range of different activities including reading with children, helping with DT projects, playing games with small groups, assisting in the outside classroom, helping in the lunch hall, making resources and helping to run a lunchtime construction club.

“They were invaluable in helping us to set up over 50 book packs to use with our reading groups where they cut up and laminated all the accompanying resources. We have also been really lucky to have a student who has been able to act as a translator for a Ukrainian girl who speaks very little English and her face lights up every week when she sees him as she is able to communicate in her own language and share her learning with him”

We look forward to this continued, mutually beneficial partnership as part of our service programme and to further collaboration between our students and the pupils at Banstead Infant School.
