Exploring Almodóvar’s Cinematic Genius

Lower Sixth students visited the BFI to experience lectures in Spanish, gaining a real understanding of Almodóvar and his films, and visiting a key part of the cinematic and creative industry. Lara White (Lower Sixth) reports.

We enjoyed listening to an interactive lecture by professors from a range of Russell Group universities, followed by an enjoyable lunch on the Southbank to discuss what we had learnt that morning. Following lunch, we had a very relaxed end to the day with a screening of Volver. The trip definitely enhanced our understanding of Almodóvar filmography, and the decisions made behind the scenes as well.

The trip provided a great opportunity to meet other Lower Sixth Spanish students from across the UK; understand their level of fluency and learn about the films they were studying. It allowed for a more relaxed day of learning which was welcomed after the recent stress of exams, yet still allowing us to collate lots of valuable information to use in our essays going forward.
