Fifth Form trained in Bushcraft survival

On Monday 1 October, 23 Fifth Form cadets were deployed as part of Epsom College’s CCF Advanced Infantry Platoon to conduct a Bushcraft survival exercise.

The exercise was split into two phases. The first saw the cadets conduct night time reconnaissance patrol to gather intelligence about an enemy location and whether an enemy defector could be trusted. During this phase the cadets were tested on their navigation at night and then, as the scenario evolved, their casualty evacuation drills.

Phase two saw the cadets enter a non-tactical day where they received lessons from the Bushcraft Company instructors on shelter building, trapping and hunting, fire making and wilderness cooking. As a final activity, the platoon split into sections to have a tomahawk throwing competition.
