Nat Sciver-Brunt, who was an Epsom pupil from 2006-11, has been appointed England captain. She replaces Heather Knight, who spent nine years in the role.
Nat had been hotly-tipped to take over the captaincy, following England’s poor performance in the Ashes earlier this year. Nat is one of England’s most experienced, and most garlanded, all-format cricketers.
Last year, Nat was named the world’s best female cricketer by Wisden, following an outstanding year of cricket. She is also the country’s highest-paid female team athlete, with Bloomberg reporting that her earning topped $1million in 2024.
Sciver-Brunt has been an integral part of England’s set-up since making her debut in 2013 and was part of the team that won the 2017 World Cup, with the 32-year-old playing 259 times for England across formats to date.
Support for Epsom’s Girls Programme
Despite her meteoric rise, Nat hasn’t forgotten her roots. In 2023, she showed her support for grassroots girls’ cricket with the launch of the Natalie Sciver-Brunt Shield – a one-day festival of girls U10 cricket, held at Epsom. This year’s competition, featuring 10 local schools, will be held on Friday 6 June.
