The crème de la crème of local cricketing talent was on display this week, with nine Prep schools from across Surrey and South London competing for the coveted Epsom College Under-9s title.
This annual event attracts some of the best budding young sportspeople for a day of good-natured and well-pitched competition. Under a clear blue sky, the teams arrived just after 9.30am with coaches, teachers, parents and grandparents in tow. The games were soon underway with some fine performances throughout the morning.
The teams, from Banstead Prep, Broomwood, Hampton Prep, Hornsby House, Hurlingham, Kew College Prep, Rokeby, Surbiton Boys’ Prep and Thomas’s Fulham, did their schools proud – competing keenly and conducting themselves impeccably.
The action only stopped, briefly, for a well-earned lunch of chicken and chips.
When play resumed, in what proved to be a closely-contested afternoon session, Surbiton Boys’ emerged as this year’s winners, narrowly beating Rokeby in a nail-biting final.
Head, Mark Lascelles, said: “Congratulation to all the schools who took part in this wonderful festival of cricket, played in absolutely beautiful conditions.”
