Six boys and six girls set off to Brighton, to play seven matches each in a very competitive four-a-side beach volleyball tournament in 28C heat. Opposition teams were from Brighton, Sevenoaks, Bedford, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and Reed’s.
Daisy Carty and Faris Jafar captained with maturity and inspirational leadership. They adjusted team tactics according to the opposition’s strengths and weaknesses, and substituted players regularly to make sure all had rests throughout the gruelling five-hour tournament.
The girls performed superbly to finish second behind Sevenoaks, while the boys took top spot to win the tournament outright. Gilky Yung and Lea Yuen were stars for the girls’ team, while Faris Jafar and Oliver Chan were the standout players for the boys. However, it was very much a squad effort that delivered these outstanding results to finish the year in style.
