HMC Foursomes National Finals

On a calm and sunny day, Liam Colohan (P) Oscar Lent (P) Toby Reynolds (G) Alex McWilliam (Fa) Jamie Reid (Rn) and Will Hewitt (H) played in the prestigious National Public Schools Finals (foursomes) at Huntercombe GC in Oxfordshire. The format was scratch stableford played over 36 holes. The best golfing schools in England and Scotland attended and as such the standard is extremely high.

  • First pair: Liam and Oscar: 31 and 34 = 65 points (4th overall)
  • Second pair: Alex and Will: 28 and 25= 53 pts
  • Third pair: Jamie and Toby: 25 and 23= 48 pts.
  • Combined totals Epsom came 4th behind, Loretto, Millfield and Gordons.
  • First place: first pair at Loretto School: 74 points.
  • Second place: first pair at Millfield School: 70 points.
  • Third place: second pair at Loretto school: 68 points.
  • Fourth place: first pair at Epsom: 65 points.

Considering the strength of the field, a fourth position represents a wonderful achievement for Oscar and Liam. Their total of 65 points (7 over par) for two rounds of foursomes golf is a superb achievement that shows great patience, skill and teamwork.

Liam heads off in August to the US (Tusculum University, Tennessee, USA) to read Business and Economics.

Throughout his five years playing golf at the College, Liam has been an inspiration. He arrived at Epsom a good solid golfer and five years later he can now consider himself one of the best young golfers in the UK.

He will be a loss to the pupil body but the College hopes his golfing progress will continue and he will represent Epsom for many years in the Halford Hewitt, “the greatest of all truly amateur tournaments.”
