House Community Spirit Shines On

Despite the distance, Houses have devised creative virtual ways to keep in touch and celebrate success.

Post-Assessment Murrell Pamper Nights

Last week Murrell girls enjoyed an online pamper night to celebrate the end of their assessments. They received a goodie bag of Neal’s Yard Remedies Samples, and a beauty therapist shared some skin care and wellbeing tips and tricks.

Upper Sixth Night, reviewed by Daisy Collins:

After Murrell U6 finished their exams, we were fortunate enough for Mrs Buhagiar to have organised a pamper evening. On a Zoom call with Gemma Miller who is a Neal’s Yard Consultant, we applied various Neal’s Yard skincare products, followed by hand creams. The luxurious scents of frankincense and rose made us all feel very calm and relaxed, which was needed after a stressful week. Although, unfortunately we could not celebrate in person, we all thoroughly enjoyed the evening, it was a very memorable way to end our Epsom journey.

Friendly Competition At Holman House Quiz Evenings

Holman enjoyed some friendly competition at the first Virtual House Quiz. Lower Sixth boys Nikolai Marinov, Bertie Gathercole, Maada-Samu Baihinga and Bryn Bradley devised the quiz which covered geography, sport, music and TV. The team of Kitan Ojo, Rudy Mill and Josh Jones were the eventual winners, although Mr Keevil and Mr Styles put on a strong showing in the tutor team!

Following the success of the first quiz, a second was staged with a sports dress code. Again organised by the Lower Sixth, this time by Matthew Dipre, Kitan Ojo, Julian Paul and Felix Porter.

Holman Friday Podcasts

Holman have also had a weekly recorded House Assembly “podcast” on a Friday morning. In the first week, I spoke about one of my favourite books, The Penguin Lessons by Tom Michell, last week The Chaplain spoke beautifully about “taking a moment to think”, and Holman Deputy Housemaster, Mr Jamie Styles talked about an extreme endurance running and paragliding race he completed in atrocious weather in the French Alps, and Holman tutor, Chris Bates, discussed “Health and Wellbeing during Lockdown”.
