Mastering Navigation and Strengthening Team Spirit

Year 10 and Lower Sixth pupils sharpen their navigation skills in advance of their Gold and Silver Duke of Edinburgh expeditions

Braving the elements, armed with waterproof gear and an unwavering spirit, our resilient pupils refused to let the dreary weather dampen their enthusiasm.

The Silver participants, showing remarkable teamwork and organisation, split into 14 groups, ready to tackle the challenges ahead. Meanwhile, the Gold students arrived eager to engage in teambuilding, already buzzing with energy. The day’s schedule was packed with crucial skills: mastering navigation across Epsom Downs, practising first aid, stove cooking, road-crossing protocol, and conducting kit checks.

One of the highlights of the day was the pupils’ unwavering enthusiasm, rain or shine. Despite the persistent rain, there was plenty of singing while walking, which kept everyone’s morale high. The focus and dedication shown during the first aid sessions from the Gold group was particularly commendable.

“Looking forward, I am confident this training has laid a strong foundation for their practice expedition in the Peak District this March. Their positive attitudes, teamwork, and resilience will be invaluable as they take on the challenges of the Pennine Way.” Henry Hampton-Carr, Head of DofE
