OE Medical Society Dinner 2023

The 2023 OE Medical Society dinner was held on 17th November at Governors’ Hall, St Thomas’ Hospital.

The event began late afternoon with a tour of The Gordon Museum led by the OE Medical Society President, David Melville (Rosebery 1967-71).  It was a real treat for our budding Sixth Form medics inspiring all who attended.

Following the tour David welcomed nearly 80 OEs, current and former parents, current and former members of staff, and Sixth Form students to the historical Governors’ Hall for a black-tie formal dinner.

The Head of Epsom College, Sir Anthony Seldon, gave an address about the medical founding pillars of Epsom College and its continued association with The Royal Medical Foundation.  Sir Anthony also updated the guests on recent developments and news about the College.

A special welcome was given to all the Sixth Form pupils in attendance and one of these pupils, Seren Callaghan, was invited to say Grace before the guests were treated to a superb meal.

After dinner, the keynote speaker Dr Richard Haworth (Crawfurd 1967-71), GP, former Army Medical Officer and Forensic Physician gave a presentation about his career as a GP including stories about his work, the people and the science behind being a medic.  Richard’s words really resonated with the many GPs in attendance as some of his clever methods to assess particularly younger patients was shared amongst the audience.

The dinner provided a perfect opportunity for old friends and former colleagues to reunite and for alumni to impart their knowledge and wisdom to younger members of the College.

A great evening was had by all and we look forward to hosting another medical dinner next year.
