OE and recent leaver Amy Scerri, (Hutchinson Murrel 2016-2023) has recently completed her first of five years at the University of Bath, where she is pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering.
During her first year, Amy took on the role of Chassis Engineer for Team Bath Racing Electric and actively participated in various hackathons. Notably, she won the Hacker’s Choice award in the Women in Technology 24-hour Hackathon. Among her proudest achievements are being awarded the prestigious Engineering Leaders Scholarship by the Royal Academy of Engineering and being selected as one of the McLaren Racing 60 Scholars.
Amy’s passion for innovation extends beyond the classroom. Currently, Amy is working as a research intern for the Institution of Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems, focusing on structural batteries. Additionally, she is conducting research as an intern for CERN, testing thin-walled cooling pipes for the Compact Muon Solenoid upgrade. Amy was eagerly anticipating her four-week work experience at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, this September.
Looking ahead, Amy is excited for her second year at university, where she has been elected Chair of Bath’s Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and appointed to the WES University Groups Board. She will also serve as the University Representative for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Bath and Bristol Young Member’s Panel.
Amy is immensely grateful for her time at Epsom College. Her experiences as Head of Murrell House and Head of the STEM club helped hone her leadership skills, and she holds fond memories of both roles. She is particularly thankful for the guidance of Dr. Telfer-Mason, Mr. Styles, and Mr. Johnstone, whose involvement in the STEM club played a pivotal role in her decision to pursue engineering.
Amy looks forward to continuing to support the team during her time at university.
Amy has achieved an incredible amount since leaving Epsom just a year ago and has quickly become a rising star in the engineering space. We are excited to see what the next year and beyond holds for her as she continues to make waves and inspire others!
