OEs win coveted Grafton Morrish Trophy

The Old Epsomians have once again won the Grafton Morrish Finals, defeating Tonbridge 2-1.

Having qualified from Royal Wimbledon GC earlier in the summer, the finals were held at Royal West Norfolk GC and Hunstanston GC from 7th-9th October.

After a bye in the first round, the OEs defeated Dollar Academy at the first extra hole with Mark Williamson and Paul Stanford making a birdie to set up a 3rd round clash against the Leys.

The Leys went down 2.5 – 1.5 and then George Heriots were defeated 2-1 in the quarter final. The semi-final then saw the OEs defeat Uppingham 2-1.

A tense final saw the OEs winning one match 5/4 and then losing a tight top match at the 18th.

It was left to Gareth Blease and Lewis Kuhler to gain the winning point. An excellent birdie two at the 16th, to halve the hole, kept them at 1 up. A tense finish saw them halve the 17th but three excellent shots into the very long and tough 18th saw them home 1 up and a second win in six years for the OEs in this illustrious event.

Danny Cullen and Jonathan Collier (Capt.) remained unbeaten during the five matches.
