Planning Permission Granted for The Mermaid

A major milestone has been reached in The Mermaid campaign – Epsom &Ewell Planning Department has granted planning permission for creation of the 2,000sqm centre for excellence. Building work is set to commence in the summer of 2020, with the aim to officially unveil the building in September 2022. This all depends on the College fundraising the required capital.

It has been a very promising start to the fundraising campaign, with over £2.7m raised to date thanks to the incredible support from the Epsom community – parents, pupils, OEs and staff. This impressive amount, combined with the School’s pledge of £2.4m, leaves the outstanding figure required at £3.4m.

How can I support the project?

A short campaign film, presented by Dr Suzannah Lipscomb (Wh 1995-1997 and Epsom College Governor), explains in detail the fundraising plans for The Mermaid and ways to support. View it below.

Name a room, leave a lasting legacy

Naming a room in The Mermaid is a highly prestigious way to leave a lasting legacy. The room will forever be referred to as the donor’s name, all signage in the building will refer to the named section of the building, and a special wall plaque will include wording of the donor’s choice.

Eighteen of the rooms have already been named and the full list of remaining opportunities is below, with highlights including:

  • the Lecture Theatre
  • the Café/Gallery area
  • the Screening Cinema Room.

Name a brick

An impressive art installation will take pride of place in the new building, created using bricks, each named by a person or family linked to the College.

A donation of £250 will buy you a brick, to be included in the striking design. All supporters who donate more than £500 will also feature on our Donor Board, to be exhibited in the main entrance of the building.

Tax-efficient giving

Donating can be extremely tax efficient if you are a UK taxpayer and Governments in certain countries can add to the contributions you make. If you would like to discuss this further or get involved to help raise the funds, please do not hesitate to the Education Trust Director, Karen Doyle on karen.doyle@epsomcollege.org.uk or 01372 821290.
