Pride Month is held each year in June to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising of 1969 — a pivotal moment in LGBTQ+ history when members of the community stood up against injustice during a police raid at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. That act of resistance sparked a global movement for equal rights, visibility, and the freedom to live authentically — a movement that continues to this day.
Throughout the month, Epsom’s pupils and staff are taking part in a range of Pride-themed activities, from curated book displays in the library, to discussion prompts, themed food from our catering team, and visual displays across the campus. Wristbands, glitter tattoos and ribbons are also being sold in support of Just Like Us, a UK charity supporting LGBTQ+ young people.
More than just a celebration, Pride Month is a reminder of the College’s commitment to creating a community where all pupils feel safe, valued, and able to be themselves. As one pupil put it: “It’s not just about rainbows — it’s about being seen.”
