Epsom College’s linguists engineered a whole day of activities to celebrate the European Day of Languages. The day, celebrated across Europe, was established by the Council of Europe as part of its conviction that “linguistic diversity is a tool for achieving greater intercultural understanding and a key element in the rich cultural heritage of our continent”. The day has been celebrated on 26 September every year since 2001.
To do its part to promote plurilingualism, Epsom’s Modern Languages department organised a host of events, including:
- A group of Ukrainian and Italian pupils took a trip to our local junior school, Wallace Fields, to deliver interactive language sessions to the children.
- A fun language quiz to get the brain cells buzzing during language lessons, with winning pupils entered into a prize draw.
- Pupils had the opportunity to enter a European competition to design a European Day of Languages T-shirt.
- Our Sixth Form created content for our Modern Foreign Languages magazine and produced a playlist of their favourite tunes in the language they study. Click the QR code below to enjoy to the playlist!
