Pupils Get Festive for Local Service Partner Maggie’s

Pupils have been supporting the College’s newest service partner, Maggie’s Care, in preparation for their Christmas party. Maggie’s is a refuge for families of cancer patients, and is situated at the Royal Marsden.

Our pupils created beautiful handmade Christmas cards and decorations, designed posters, and worked on musical pieces to perform on the night. They also attended sessions to learn and then create knitted and crocheted head-warmers for those suffering hair loss. In addition, a small number of pupils visited weekly to help with keeping the garden area tidy.

Roshie Watkins, Service Co-ordinator, said “It has been great to see the Service pupils really embrace their particular projects, sometimes learning a completely new skill, to finish off with a beautiful array of items which we are excited to deliver for the event tomorrow.”

Lydia, Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s, said “The support of Epsom College students has been invaluable to Maggie’s during this challenging time. By generously dedicating their time to help us host our Christmas Party, they have helped us to raise vital funds to keep our centre open and continue to support people living with cancer in Sutton and surrounding areas.”

Bryn, Centre Head at Maggie’s said, “This is an incredibly hard time for people with cancer and I’ve been hearing stories of real loneliness and anxiety. That’s why the team at Maggie’s are still here, still going, still reaching out. The support of groups like Epsom College helps us to ensure our vital work can continue.”
