Run of victory for Rugby sides vs Brighton College

In Rugby, there were excellent results in the senior school, with only one defeat out of 14 matches against strong Brighton College opponents.

The 1st XV were depleted through injury following their win against St John’s in the Champions Cup quarter final midweek and Brighton took advantage to beat them 29-8. Makeen Alikhan (Rn) produced a stand out performance in this game.

The 2nd team remain unbeaten after a 15-15 draw against Brighton’s similarly unbeaten 2nd team. Shaun How Teo (Fa) scored a try and was player of the match, while Tom Wearne (G) kept his cool to convert a late penalty to secure the draw.

The 3rd team also drew as Epsom came back from 19-0 down to level the scores. Lucas Fildes (C) was the key player in this close match.

The 4ths enjoyed a good win, 39-12, with two tries for Ben Grubb (P) and man of the match Sam McGrath (C).

In the juniors, all the U16, U15 and U14 sides were unbeaten, with four matches won in really close contests.

The U16As held their nerve to score a try – Olaiya Adeniji (F) – and convert – Tom Lynagh (F) – with the last kick of the game to win 27-25. Meanwhile, the B team were convincing winners 36-0. Tries were shared around the teams in these games. The C team managed a 12-12 draw with Maada-Samu Baihinga (H) scoring a try in a player of the match performance.

In the U15s, there were good wins for the As (26-6), where a strong defence and good start were crucial, and also for the Bs (36-0). Henry Lyes (Rn) scored three tries for the B team while the Cs claimed their third win of the season 21-19, with Finn Walmsley (H) outstanding in the tackle and with match-winning conversions.

In the U14s all four teams won, the A team 22-15, scoring some excellent tries in the process and with strong performances from Tom Williams (Fa) and Will Harris (Fa).

Oliver Yeabsley (H) scored four tries for the U14Bs in a game that finished 33-31, with a late try from Rorke Ollerhead (Fa) and a cool touchline conversion from Teddy Keevil (C) winning the match.

The U14Cs remain unbeaten after a 57-7 win, with Louis Saint (G) scoring four more tries, and Vladimir Dropnokhod (G) three, while the D team won 47-7, Harry Boxer (G) the key player in this fine victory.

The U13 and U12s found the going tougher against strong Reigate opposition.

Two tries from Matthew Earle (Wa) were not enough for the U13As who went down 15-35, but the U12As drew 20-20 thanks to two excellent tries from Oscar Lent (Wa) and a superb performance from Caspar Curran (Wa).

The two B teams struggled, although the U13Bs missed some crucial early chances that could have made a difference.
