The Grace Dear Trust, a local charity that supports teenagers with mental health issues, was presented with a cheque for £10,000 – money raised during the leavers’ ball in June. Amy Henwood, handed the money to the charity’s founder, Graham Dear, at a Sixth Form assembly, where students learnt more about the Trust’s work.
Earlier in the year, the Upper Sixth chose the Esher-based charity, the Grace Dear Trust, as their charity to support. Each year, our students choose to support a local charity, and the Grace Dear Trust does fantastic work with schools in the area. Graham and his family set up the Trust in 2017 to support young people with mental health issues, after their own daughter, Grace, took her life aged just 27. Grace had experienced a long battle with anxiety and self-harm.
Graham expressed his thanks to the students for raising such a wonderful amount and urged everyone to always keep talking to each other and share a problem. As the quote on their website says, ‘It’s ok to not be ok’.
