The Halford Hewitt 2024 Tournament

Our OE Golf Team again competed in the prestigious competition at the Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club in Deal, Kent.

The Halford Hewitt Cup tournament, described as ‘the greatest of all truly amateur tournaments’ by golf writer Nick Tremayne is one of the most popular events in the golfing calendar.

Founded in 1924 this amateur golf tournament is contested between teams of 10 former pupils from the 64 schools of the Public Schools Golfing Society. Each school fields five foursomes pairs, making 640 competitors in all. It is the largest scratch amateur event in the world in terms of starting competitors.

Unfortunately, this year our OEs lost to Repton in the first round, though they then entered the plate which was played at Princes in Sandwich, and won 4 matches before just missing out to Forest in the final.

The team had a great week, and enjoyed the convivial camaraderie that the tournament is so well known for.

We are always looking for new players to join the OE Golf team, so please do get in touch oeclub@epsomcollege.org.uk if you are interested.

We wish the team the very best of luck in their next events; the Schools Putting Competition and the Grafton Morrish qualifying event, both at Royal Wimbledon in May and June.
