Drawing together students with a shared passion for theatre, The Vickers’ Project is an annual event which was established in 2017 by then Lower Sixth (Year 12) student, Katie Vickers. Taking on the daunting task of writing a musical for her extended project, the outcome was an outstanding and mature score which was far too good to stay on the page, and The Vickers’ Project was born.
Now in its eighth year; the project, which is entirely student-led, allows for aspiring theatre directors, writers, designers and performers their chance to work together on a project they feel passionate about.
This year saw 28 students from Years 9, 10 and 12 take part. Impressively, half of the performances were original pieces, and an increasing number of new students took part, using the project as an opportunity to feed their creativity and collaborate with like-minded peers.
Drama teacher, Rhiannon Johnson, who helped to establish the Vickers’ Project, said: “This is exactly what the project is all about. Everyone involved should be very proud of themselves”.
